Now that I've finally posted my dot com, I can save this thing for actually writing entries. I'm currently working on Seussical the Musical for Connetquot High School. It opens in march which gives me time to complete it but the process is going slow. All of my materials are purchased! Yay! There are over 70 kids in the cast so, I'm about to get back to work. Where did summer go? Oh yeah, thats right! I costumed Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at Broadhollow's BayWay Theater and Elmont theater! What a great cast! Now that it's over I can admit that it was great fun, even though I got pretty sick, pretty quickly of repairing the spring dresses...

For Halloween this year I decided to go blonde.

Here is the Mad Hatter pouring tea on my brother, the Caterpillar. He's got eight arms.

This hat was my favorite part. The hair is made of Mohair fur scraps.

We also had a white rabbit.

I never knew falling down the rabbit hole would be such hard work. The week before Halloween, I did not sleep!

Next year I'll be Mary Poppins.

Giving my blog a makeover is in no way comparable to making a website for myself. And, I'd love to have one.

The Towson Universtity Fashion Show is in a few days, I'm almost ready, I'd love to post

a link so my friends could buy tickets,... but, alas... there is no link to be found. Perhaps this is a private show? psh.

If anyone is interested, I've been told that tickets can be purchased at the Towson University Union, an hour prior to the show. Tickets are cheapo, the show is in Burdick Gym at 8pm on May 9th. I've made 7 ensembles.

Pictures will of course be coming eventually.

Happy Cinco de Mayo. I'll be working in the studio, have a cocktail for me!

I'm pretty long overdue for an update, but I was trying to wait until I had something to show for all the time that had passed. Here is a poor quality video of my work for the Steps to the Cure Fashion show a couple of weeks ago. And a clearer image of Barb, Kathy and myself, all wearing my designs.

Studio portraits will be taken in due time.

During the show before each model walked there were short clips of the designers explaining the inspiration for their designs... I don't think mine were heard. Here they are now...

For Kathy:

Strongly influenced by color and flare, I decided to custom paint this piece. Based on Kathy Matava's personality and eye for fashion, I immediately knew that a hand painted silk dress would satisfy her desire for chic beauty and confidence. The colors are richly layered, the hand is flowing just as I imagined it. Kathy is a hardworking woman with gusto and class, the perfect addition to this work of art.

For Barb:

My work relies on it's subject for inspiration. The design reflects the model's self image and personality. Drawing inspiration from Barbara's interests in classic styles, her flawless appearance gave me the opportunity to redesign the ordinary. I created versatile separates and something elegant tailored specifically tailored to Barbara's taste. Her ability to overcome has astounded me and if anyone deserves to look this good, it's Barbara Raksin.

I started at Broadhollow this week building costumes for 1776 and it's amazing how quickly time passes while I'm there. It's just what I wanted.

Halloween is just around the corner... I have so many costumes but I'm still at a loss as to what I'm going to actually wear!

As a maker I am solely responsible for clearly conveying the look the wearer desires through function, fit and style. Simultaneously, I'm sharing my own ideas, be it vintage designs, children's wear or or theater costume inspired. Be creating custom prints and surface manipulations I am able to individualize every aspect of a garment. Through specifying the visual or functional utilities of a garment, I am able to create fashion concepts, which orginate from the fundementals of costume.

So here's a strange angled picture of the queen of hearts although I've realized that these costumes dont actually look good inless they're on a human body.

Therefore, this is all you get to see of the Caterpillar costume from hell. I'll try and snatch some photos of it on stage, hopefully I'll be happier with it there.

The funnest part of this project, the hat!! This is the queen of hearts hat completed.

I decided I needed to showcase this self portrait by John Horner. If you knew him, you'd understand why I photographed it and post it. It looks soooo much like him!
Next post I'll provide you all with some photos of the matching dancing Alice dresses. <3
